What is a Book of Shadows?
I was talking with a young witchy woman.
Actually.
I was listening to her talk.
Patiently.
She was going on about how she was going to find a book of shadows with spells and stuff in it. She starts talking about a bunch of grimoires and such, most of which are useless or misinformative.
Hmmm.
I think I remember searching for something similiar, long ago.
So long ago.
A Book of Shadows is not a product.
You can't buy one.
It is a concept.
You can buy a pretty book to hold your Book of Shadows
or you can put it in a binder.
It is better if it is a nice book with non-removeable pages.
But no one will ever see it.
Outside of whomever you do your spiritual "workings" with.
Whatever those entail.
It's private, like a diary.
And if properly written,
as dangerous to you as a real diary being read out loud.
It isn't a path specific concept,
but it is a generally important and often misunderstood one.
You see,
most magic isn't about physical things.
The herbology, the chemistry, the metallurgy, all these physical things,
the "spells" and potions
They belong in spellbooks, workbooks, schoolbooks.
90% of what is termed "higher magic"
is about
COMMUNICATION
communication, diplomacy, manners,
and self transformation
These are the contents of your Book of Shadows
The Shadows that you converse with
in your meditations
Our Christianized society controls and crushes our telepathy and empathy
As we gradually realize our ability communicate, and project, to visualize, see, and relate to each other in this medium,
This non-empiric, currently unmeasurable telepathic and etheric communication and projection is extremely dense, full of layers of meaning
When we are in the midst of our meditations
We write, simply, of what we experience
So that later, when we begin to forget,
worn down by the games and punishments of our masters and overseers
we can read in our private places
and remember what we have seen.
If you have a small group
try having group meditations or rituals for a month
silently
and date each set of notes in your books
When you compare
you should see similiarities
otherwise
You might need to find different working partners.
A Book of Shadows will contain references to feelings you have about people
that you meet
or talk to
In the Dark Ages of the burnings
that book would hang you and everyone in it
and thus its great secrecy
in this time of Burning
the contents of a personal Book of Shadows
would, if written TRULY
be used to incarcerate you
in a christianized psychological facility
The visions, transformations, lessons and conversations you recount in your book are to remind you later of your experiences,
do not believe that this is truly a time of temperence for neopagan belief
our associations do not get smaller because of less "witches" or pagans
they get smaller because we are being targeted
Your Book of Shadows will be blank when you first buy or obtain it
3 years later
if you really are on The Path
Its contents will be sacred
and dangerous to you
So protect it.
