IMHO
He was a witch of some type
and his particular religious belief
love is most important
She wanted him (at least as far as I can tell from research)
He wanted her
The parents didn't have a problem
She was of the age that during the time of Jesus she would be marrying
everyone was happy
except Christian law
I believe she went over to see him later

yet he still can't come here
it's interesting and anachronistic

for when a situation crosses the line
from love and choice
into brainwashing/grooming/control
But there definitely is a line

We've seen many closed religious communities fall into systems of child sexual abuse
We need to clarify the conditions that create such abuse
and mitigate the risk
while keeping open the idea of religious freedom
because 20 "wives" really is a bit much
But what about 2 wives? Or 2 husbands?
It already happens regularly in practical reality
A spouse and a lover, and often 2 sets of kids
one set without any legal protection
again, I have no real bias, since I'm not married
It does seem that Canadian Law has an Orthodox Christian bias in the matter
